First Day at Agape

Yesterday was our first day as a family at Agape's main campus.  Tammy and I attended our first management meeting with Agape's Kenyan staff, along with Blake and Esther Gibbs.  We had a lot of questions, but the meeting went really well!  While in the meeting, the kids spent time with some of the boys at Agape, as well as with some of the management staff's children.

Princess Nets & a 2-Level Fort

Tonight being our first night in Kisumu, our kids were introduced to mosquito nets for the first time.  Connor & Lyla liked the idea of a "princess net" and the boys liked the idea of their bunk bed as 2-level "fort."

Jambo! We have arrived in Kisumu!

After about 65 hours of travelling, we arrived safely into Kisumu earlier this morning.  We were greeted by Blake & Esther Gibbs, as well as by three of Agape's Kenyan management team, Johnstone, Lebaus, and Winfred.  It was wonderful to see everyone!

I'll update everyone on what's happened since we last wrote.  The sun finally came out on Thursday afternoon in London, and we took the train into the city to do a little sightseeing.  We got a little bit of a late start heading to London because we all took a nap that afternoon, and ended up arriving downtown around 8 PM.  It all worked out well, as we had just enough time to see the London Eye, Big Ben, Parliament, Trafalgar Square, and Buckingham Palace.  We, of course, capped off the day with dinner at McDonalds (in true American fashion).

Yesterday morning (Friday) we left London at 10 AM to fly to Nairobi.  The flight was uneventful (except for a really hard landing that caused the oxygen masks to fall down!).  We arrived in Nairobi around 9:30 PM, and then ended up waiting in line for a visa until around midnight.  We finally got checked into our hotel around 1 AM earlier this morning, got into bed around 2 AM, and got up at 6 AM for our flight to Kisumu.  But, we made it!

Well, we are safely in our hotel in London.  We've had a "fun" time so far, but we're here safely, and that's what's important!  We're all a little sleepy, but after showers we're all feeling a little more human.

Some of you may have seen Tammy's Facebook posts last night, so I'll sum up our experiences in the Atlanta Airport in one sentence:  We arrived 3 hours early for our flight, but still had to run to the gate to catch the flight.  Gotta love airport bureaucracy!

Like all good Americans, we arrived at our hotel and ordered Domino's Pizza!  Everyone is also trying to imitate British accents (and are doing a very poor job of it).

We're hoping that the rain will let up some this afternoon so that we can squeeze in a little site seeing!
